Fees and Insurance for Psychotherapy Charlottesville, Virginia

Private Pay/Out-of-Network Fees: $185-200 per session

Advantages of Private Pay:

• There is no requirement that you are assigned a diagnosis.

• Insurance companies cannot dictate the type or length of care you receive.

• Insurance companies don't have access to your records. 

Out of Network:

Many people are unaware of how their out-of-network benefits work or if they are covered. We are happy to help you figure out if billing out-of-network is a realistic option for you. If you plan to use out-of-network benefits, we can provide a "superbill" upon request for you to submit for reimbursement from your insurance company. Please keep in mind you will need to pay the full fee at the time of service and your insurance may not cover the full fee. 

Insurance

We participate in-network with Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Sentara Health Plans, and the UnitedHealthcare Student Resources behavioral health plan for UVA students. We accept Medicaid (Anthem HealthKeepers Plus and Sentara Community Plans only). We do NOT accept any Medicare plans.

Questions I encourage you to ask your insurance company before you start therapy:

• What are my benefits for in-network and out-of-network outpatient mental health therapy? 

• What is my deductible? This is the amount you pay each year before insurance starts paying for a portion of your care. 

• What have I paid so far toward my deductible? Your deductible resets each year.

• What is my copay? This is a fixed rate you are responsible for each session, often after your deductible has been met.

• What is my coinsurance? This is a percentage of the allowable amount that you are responsible for often after your deductible is met. 

• Are there limits on sessions or frequency?

• Is Sarah Cooper, LCSW in-network with my specific plan?

No Show or Late Cancellations: Please give at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel your appointment, otherwise you will be charged$165 fee for your missed session. If you are more than 15minutes late this will be considered a late cancellation. Insurance will not cover this fee.
